“Women at the Ballot Box”
LMU University of Munich, Kleine Aula (A120), Main Building
The Association of Artists for the Promotion of Art Kat-ART-i and the Department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Munich, in collaboration with the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Munich, the Palladion Foundation, and the General Consulate of Greece in Munich, cordially invite you to the visual arts exhibition entitled “WOMEN AT THE BALLOT BOX!”, which will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at LMU Munich, on the occasion of the 130th international and 70th Greek anniversary of women's suffrage, and as part of a scientific symposium on the same topic.
The exhibition aims to celebrate, through artistic expression, the tireless efforts of women who fought for the right to education, professional development, and political participation — the right both to vote and to be elected.
The participating artists drew inspiration from the stories of pioneering women who struggled for a more democratic, equal, and just society. They created original works — in and with textiles — including garments that narrate the historical evolution of women’s voting rights across countries and cultures, the role of women in political movements and the power of their collective voice, the challenges faced by women on the path to political participation, the importance of equality and inclusion in a democratic society, and the vision of a future world where women’s rights are fully realized.
